A Brief Introduction of Department of Business Foreign Language
Department of Business Foreign Language
has aimed at cultivating composite application-oriented talents of foreign
languages for the development of Hunan Province. The department offers 4
specialties – Business English, International Business English, Applied Korean
and Foreign-oriented Secretary.
With a strong teaching staff and a broad range
of Business Foreign Language courses, the department provides Diploma, as well
as various occupational training programs. The department has a teaching
contingent consisting primarily of young and middle-aged teachers, with high
educational level, high academic proficiency, and rich experience in practice.
It has faculty and staff of 70, consisting of 60 full-time teachers (among whom
are 24 teachers with M.A. degrees and master candidates). Many teachers have
experiences studied abroad. The department attaches great importance to academic
research and has made some achievements in curriculum development and textbook
compilation. Many theses are published in all kinds of journals every year.
There are currently 1414 students in the department. Since the department ranked
first in higher vocational education schools, it has become the executive member
of the Association of Business Foreign Language, and Business English has been
named a key specialty.
The department has yielded fruitful result in developing
pedagogical research and improving teaching methods. A scientific pedagogic
method for teaching applied foreign languages has been created by the Department
of Business Foreign Language. All our programs have been developed according to
the society’s needs, focusing on cultivating the students’ occupational
abilities and by adopting multiple assessment methods and a “student-centered”
teaching philosophy. The department has set up 8 first-class language labs, 4
business practice rooms and 2 off- campus practice bases. The department offers
National Business English Certificate Test and College English Test- 3,4,6 .
The
department holds a variety of English activities such as English Speech Contest,
English Corner, English debate competition, English Saloon, Special Subject
Lecture, ect.
